Some portraits just grow on you

by Callan

I took this one out of necessity; since I was giving a talk on shooting wide-open, I figured I needed some quick snaps wide-open. I didn’t expect any of them to jump out at me.

But this one sort of grew on me a little. It’s the sort of portrait I like — nothing too ostentatious or in-your-face. I took photos of 4 models that day and I built the most rapport with her even in the short time we spent. That is usually the deciding factor, when both parties involved in the portrait believe they can make a great result.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II and Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/85 at f/1.4

I don’t shoot wide-open most of the time, but somehow, this one seems to work well enough.
