Everyone loves Christmas, since this is one of the few (read: many) opportunities to spend money on things we as photographers need (read: want). I am, of course, talking about photography-related items, if not the whole venture lapses into fantasy-land territory. I can definitely put a Ferrari 599 on that list, but that’d be day-dreaming. Since there are three of us, we each get to name one item in each category that we really, really want. We’ve been good boys, Santa, so pretty please?
Let us start with lenses. Jingwen’s pick is the Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 1.4/35 ZE, pictured here in all it’s beautiful optical glory.
And Kevin’s wishing for a Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS USM for his portraiture needs.
My pick would be a good, clean copy of the Leica M Dual-Range Summicron 50/2.
Next up, cameras! Jingwen’s wishing for a Chamonix 45N-2, a 4×5 view camera.
Kevin’s pick, as expected, is the up-and-coming Canon EOS 1Dx. We knew he couldn’t resist after testing it out at the launch.
I’d take a Contax T2 in a heartbeat. And it’s pretty affordable too. Maybe I should go snag one from Bellamy Hunt, aka Japan Camera Hunter, who has one on sale. He’s really great chap to boot.
And last but not least, photobooks. Or at least, photography-related books. This is probably the hardest one for me because I want to buy so, so many. Here is Jingwen picked “Edward Weston: One Hundred Twenty-Five Photographs“:
Kevin wants the “Magnum Contact Sheets“:
This one is really difficult for me, but I’m gonna plump for Bruce Davidson’s “Outside Inside”. For that, I blame Mike Johnston.
What’s on your wish list?
Jingwen, Kevin and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone whom we’ve had the pleasure to work, collaborate, and commiserate with through 2011. It’s a long and winding road, and it’s never easy, but we couldn’t have done it without you guys. Have a Merry Christmas, and a great New Year.
